What is Sea Teacher?

The SEA Teacher Project or the “Pre-Service Student Teacher Exchange in Southeast Asia” is a project that aims to provide opportunity for pre-service student teachers from universities in Southeast Asia to have teaching experiences (practicum) in schools in other countries in Southeast Asia.

The exchange is preferably for 4th year students whose major are in math, science, English and pre-school. The duration is for one month and based on the mechanism of cost sharing basis. Students’ roles and responsibilities are assigned weekly during the one month period (observe, assist in teaching, teach and reflect). Moreover, the host universities will provide mentors to supervise and monitor the students throughout the practicum period.

    Objectives of the Project

·      a. To enable pre-service student teachers to develop their teaching skills and pedagogy

·      b.  To encourage the pre-service student teachers to practice their English skills

·      c. To allow the pre-service student teachers to gain a broader regional and world view

·      d.  To expose future teachers to diverse teaching and learning situations and opportunities, and the value of flexibility.

Biography of Student Teacher

Hello everyone...

My name is Muhammad Farhan Algifariz but everyone call me Farhan. Well, not everyone, my friends, colleagues and students in Philippines call me Mohan (Mo: MO-hammad, Han: Far-HAN). I was born in Semarang but raised in Surabaya of East Java. Later at life, I moved to Purwokerto in Central Java to accompany my mother.

Now I’m pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (UMP), the private university located in Purwokerto, Banyumas, Central Java. I'm currently in my 3rd year of English Education study as I am writing this. Even though it is under Muhammadiyah institution (an Islamic organization), it is open for public to attend.

I am attending an International class program, which doesn't mean anything much than a regular class. The only difference that came across my mind was that in my class, we use English as the class language, even for a lecture that did not use English such as civic education and better yet, Indonesian language. The other thing is that our class is being pursued to attend a lot of international program, such as SEA Teachers.

How come I choose English Education as the major?

There is no special reason for me to join the Education Faculty. I like learning language and I already master intermediate English before I attend UMP. Furthermore, I also wanted to educate myself in the psychology of human behavior. However, since psychology degree for me doesn't really have that much working prospect that I would enjoy doing, I decided to take education due to its link to children behavioral study, especially in the classroom context.
